Halloween is a widely celebrated holiday, but it can also be a risky night in neighbourhoods all around the country. The holiday can occasionally contain more tricks than treats, with children racing through streets and neighbourhoods in the dark, adults driving home from parties, and hordes of strangers handing out candy to kids.
At HiKinjo we want everyone to have a safe and happy Halloween experience. And why not earn some quick cash in return? If you’re planning on going trick-or-treating tonight, take along the neighbourhood kids, and make sure to follow these easy tips for everyone to stay safe.
Trusted neighbourhood
Find the safest, most effective path to the candy by preplanning your route, and only visiting well-lit houses. Ask your neighbours who are to be giving out candy this year, and whether they intend to offer non-food items to trick-or-treaters with food allergies or not. Make Halloween a secure day for all children.
Dress scary, but safely
Make sure the candy bags or pails or some part of the outfit you and the kids you’re chaperoning wear are reflective to help others see your group. You can also take along a flashlight for extra precaution. To avoid tripping, costumes should not drag excessively on the ground. Additionally, masks, headgear, and shoes should all fit comfortably.
Use the sidewalk whenever possible or on the far side of the road facing the oncoming traffic. Try to avoid cutting through yards or through alleys. Cross the street at a crosswalk whenever it is safe to do so. Don’t forget to look both ways before crossing! Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, especially if you’re in charge of a group of kids.
Drive safe
If you intend to drive during trick-or-treat hours, keep an eye out for kids crossing streets, medians, and curbs. Be cautious when entering and exiting driveways, and make sure your lights are on so that passing pedestrians can see you and move to the side of the road.
Now grab your best costume, some flashlights, and empty pumpkin crates, and you’re all set. Take the neighbouring kids along your trick-or-treating for extra fun – and extra cash! Hop on to HiKinjo and offer your chaperoning service right away!
From all of us at HiKinjo, we hope you have a spooktacular and safe Halloween!
